Color practices by DFer32 Color practices by DFer32
These are some color/value practices i did with no references, trying to capture colors just from imagination and what i remember from what i see in real life. However i need a lot of practice lol . Notice that the black/white one, has almost the same composition and scenery than my old painting "Rainy Day", but this time i just wanted to paint it using only values.
These were done in Photoshop CS6 in 30 to 60 minutes each.

Do you use a certain type of brush in Photoshop to achieve the pastel crayon look?

Yeah, it's the default chalk brush that comes in Photoshop (i have CS6 but i've seen it in CS3 too). I use it to paint the backgrounds, just to give that look like the backgrounds on some animes. Also it gives some texture :)

That's fantastic. I've been looking for something to make some backgrounds for animation with. I think this will help. :)

TuT

I'd say you nailed the values and colours down pat. Good stuff.
I'd love to see that one on the right get fleshed out into a more detailed painting.

Wow...just wow. You are by far one of the greatest artists that I have seen. You may not be the greatest at realistic art or anime style art, but your ability to do both of them very well is what impresses me. Your unique style for your realistic art is also amazing. I find the sketchiness of it to be great, as seen in that black-and-white one and your other "Rainy Day" piece. Also the fact that you did each of these between 30-60 minutes is crazy! If you go to my profile you can see the "art" that I try to make in the same amount of time.

All-in-all, good stuff. Keep doing what you are doing :D

btw, first English comment :D

Hah, yeah thanks. I make those practices to see if i learned something, i've been studying a bit about concept art and speed paintings, because i really like that kind of art. It's nice to learn about it, doesn't matter if i mostly draw anime. The knowledge i got from studying realist lightning and coloring, improves a lot my understanding about shadows, light, and colors when i draw some anime stuff, specially when it comes to backgrounds :D

PD: Ese pajaro parece chocobo.
